University of Nagasaki Exchange | fall 2022

PROGRAM OVERVIEWExpand ContentCollapse Content

This program is a unique opportunity to become completely immersed in Japanese culture and to take your Japanese studies to the next level! In this exchange program, students enroll at the University of Nagasaki and take a semester of tuition-free, transferable Edmonds College credits during Fall and Winter quarters. As a representative of Edmonds College, students qualify for university subsidized housing, as well as gain the opportunity to attend special events for international students.

This program is treated and run as an exchange with only a few students for a longer time than a traditional study abroad program. The purpose is to internationalize both participating campuses, and we design specific pre-departure meetings for Edmonds College students who are accepted. The greatest advantage to this program is the true immersion you will experience. You will be fully surrounded by Japanese culture and language and university life, much more so compared to a traditional study abroad program.

For fourteen weeks, you will be immersed in Japanese life: eating, commuting, and studying with your Japanese peers. During this time, you will also have the chance to meet students and other people from countries around the world. As an old trading port, Nagasaki enjoys a mix of architectural styles, cuisines, and traditions. This program is a unique opportunity to become completely immersed in Japanese language and culture and take your Japanese studies to the next level.

LOCATION

Spend a semester at the University of Nagasaki (UN), located on the southern island of Kyushu. In addition to studying Japanese language and culture, you will take other classes (with English language support) alongside UN’s own student body. You will spend your time in furnished apartments, no more than 30 minutes from campus, during your stay.

It is important that before planning your trip to Japan, consider all the medications you need to take with you, in case you have any medical condition or need to take a certain medication.

For this, it is necessary that you go to a trusted doctor so they can give you a certificate that you certainly need these medicines, so Japanese customs do not confiscate your medications, and if you need to get more of these and are not available in Japan, you can import them.
